Bay Laurel Hydrosol
Ingredients: Steam distilled fresh leaves of California Bay Laurel (Umbellularia californica).
Suggested use: This herb was thought to maintain health and happiness by ancient Greeks. The pungent hydrosol can be spritzed on the skin and face to awaken the senses, aid headaches or colds, as an insect repellant, and antibacterial wash for skin infections, rashes, and wounds. It may also be applied to swellings, sprains, and aches to aid in pain relief. Best kept cool or refrigerated. Shake well before use.
All of our hydrosols are made in small batches, in an 8 Liter copper steam distiller using herbs grown on the farm. Hydrosols, also known as “flower waters”, are the steam distillation of fresh or dried plant material (leaves, fruits, flowers, bark, or root). Hydrosols can be seen as the byproduct of essential oils with similar properties to essential oils. These aromatic waters are much less concentrated and have a softer and more subtle smell when compared to their essential oil counterpart. This aroma comes from the water-soluble constituents in the plant material that are not present in the essential oil. Offering skin care benefits and uplifting aromatherapy properties; they make wonderful single ingredient perfumes, deodorants, facial toners, air fresheners, aromatherapy sprays, bath additions, and can even be added to flavor foods and drinks. Since they are water based, they are generally one of the safer products to use with pets and children as well.
